Cosmic Science.
Over 40 Gravity-Defying, Earth-Orbiting,
Space-Cruising Activities for Kids.
by Jim Wiese
In an engaging style, this book introduces astronomy and space technology
through a series of down-to-earth projects. Wiese demonstrates that it doesn't
take high-tech equipment to play around with the principles of gravity, orbits,
living in space, travel to the moon and the planets, and observation of the
stars. Each activity includes a list of mainly all-day household materials to be
used for the activities, a procedure to follow, and an explanation of what's
happening and how it applies to space science. Line drawings illustrate the text.
A good resource for elementary school science teachers and for middle-grade
students seeking simple science fair projects.

Space Station Science.
Space Station Science : Life in Free Fall
by Marianne J. Dyson, Dave Klug (Illustrator), Buzz Aldrin
This is a book for kids, but somewhat interesting for their parents, too. For
example, most people know that astronauts experience weightlessness in orbit, but
how many people know that a lack of gravity means more than dealing with simple
inconveniences such as having to learn how to get dressed while floating?
Weightlessness is only one of the subjects in Space Station Science. The book is
divided into five sections: Getting There, Space Basics, Living in Space, Working
in Space and Coming Home. Each is filled with wonderful descriptions, comments
from astronauts, and amusing factoids. (Did you know that astronauts don't burp
while in space?) Share some "Oh, wow" moments with your child as you
read about the challenges of surviving in space, the solutions NASA is using to
overcome these difficulties and why it's worthwhile going into space in the first
place. The book also includes about a dozen hands-on activities, as well as
suggestions on where to turn for more information.
